Is it to satisfy a personal need? “These are the questions many entrepreneurs and startup teams have to ask themselves,” says Cruz Gamboa. “If they focus on only on making money, they limit their potential.”

Purpose-driven leadership is what drove Patagonia to become one of the world’s great companies to work for. Purpose drove SAP to become one of the greatest advocates for employers of people on the autism spectrum. Purpose drove Elon Musk to go to space and build electric cars.

Purpose, says Gamboa, is the innate drive to achieve goals that are personally meaningful. This drive fuels powerful synaptic responses in your brain that release dopamine and reward you with a feeling of fulfillment and accomplishment.
