GEAR DETAILS IN DESCRIPTION BELOW
I decided to turn my '08 MIM Standard Strat into a solid-body acoustic with passive electronics so I could have a durable, easy playing, feedback-free, electric-acoustic for gigs. Why passive? Because I prefer to run things off of AC/phantom power when possible and to keep the guitar simple. In fact, it's so simple that the only wiring in the guitar is a set of narrow spaced Graph Tech Ghost saddle pickups wired directly to the jack. Surprisingly, the pickups plugged directly into a regular guitar amp have a lot of output, but I am using my Sansamp Para Driver DI to obtain a lower output impedance, proper buffering, a fuller sound, and tonal flexibility. I also have my Boss ME-70 patched in between the guitar and the Sansamp to add reverb, compression, and to dial out a little piezo low frequency rumble with its parametric EQ.
The pickguard is an Allparts blank that I slotted to accommodate the saddle pickup wires. It also came with only four index holes drilled at the farthest corners, and to keep with the minimalist theme, I only added one screw on the treble side of the bridge to make sure it sits flat around the piezo wires as they can pick up vibration.
It is strung with Elixir Nanoweb 80/20 .010-.047 extra lights to keep electric guitar playability with acoustic guitar tonality via the wound third string and the phosphor bronze alloy.
