(Edit) Sand dredging is depleting the Mekong River at an alarming rate, that millions will be affected along with the wildlife and environment, as sand is needed globally for construction in this edit. China is used an example but many other nations are using this type of sand as well. Desert sand is the wrong kind unfortunately, but start-ups are looking into ways to make desert sand coarser and more bio-degradeable, so it can be used.
