Part of Dance Umbrella 2008. These special performances mark both forty years of Alston-choreography and his sixty years on earth. They also mark Alston's thirty-year relationship with Dance Umbrella. The programme includes two new works and a London premiere.
The Men In My Life is a celebration of the remarkable work that Alston has made for male dancers, ranging from an early solo, Strider (1971), through choreography made for such outstanding dancers as Michael Clark, Darshan Singh Bhuller and Martin Lawrence, right up to the latest works for the Olivier-nominated Jonathan Goddard.
Also in the programme, the world premiere of Blow Over - set to the racing pace of Philip Glass' Songs From Liquid Days - and Shuffle It Right, inspired by the idiosyncratic and jazzy songs of Hoagy Carmichael.
Performed 2 & 3 October 2008 at Sadler's Wells
