Black cotton soils cover the major areas in the Adilabad district and receive an average annual rainfall of 1050 mm. Cotton occupies three fourth of the area in the district. The majority of the farmers in the district are cultivating under the conventional flatbed method. As the district receives a high amount of downpour during the months of July to August leads to runoff. Cultivation of cotton under the conventional flatbed method leads to poor drainage during high rainfall and increase pest and disease incidence attack. KVK, Adilabad has conducted a demonstration on Raised bed system at the instructional farm. Technology is well suitable for black cotton soils of the district. It improves drainage, allows moisture conservation, and increases the water use efficiency of the crop.
