Russia's Ministry of Defense on Monday refuted Turkey's accusation that Russian aircraft had trespassed in Turkish airspace.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry protested against the alleged violation of the Turkish territorial airspace by a Russia SU 34 jet in a statement issued on January 30. Responding to the allegation, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said in Monday's online statement that no actual data was provided by the Turkish side to prove there was any violation of the Syrian-Turkish border by Russian warplanes.
Konashenkov insisted that Turkey's allegation against Russia was not just groundless propaganda but also had distinct signs of a provocation.
"There is no actual evidence about the region, altitude, heading and speed of the aircraft. All objective data of the so-called airspace violation only exists in the imagination of the authors of the allegation," said Konashenkov.
Meanwhile, the Russian spokesperson presented videos allegedly showing the deployment of self-propelled artillery at a Turkish border post and supposed strikes against populated areas in Syria.
"The footage shows the Turkish side used large-caliber, self-propelled artillery to fire at populated areas in Syria. We expect NATO and the United States can give explanations at the same fast speed about the Turkish military's action," Konashenkov said.
