I’ve seen this incredible slime mold time lapse video making the rounds on social media, so I decided to duet it (please let me know who filmed the original video so I can tag them). This is #ChocolateTubeSlimeMold or #Stemonitis going from it’s nascent egg-like stage into elongated yellowish tubes that quickly turn into brown powdery columns. These are the spore bearing sporangia of this slime mold. Despite going from egg to mature slime mold in as little as 24 hours, these spore laden chocolate tubes can persist for weeks to months, seeding their local environment with a plethora of microscopic spores that will ensure another generation of slime.
