Jennifer: My favorite part about being an attorney is helping people. There's a lot of emotions, so you have to sort of be the steady hand in all of that. You have to be really be strong for your clients and advocate for them.
Some potential clients fear getting involved with an attorney because they think that an attorney means litigation and making their divorce more difficult or more expensive. But actually an attorney can help resolve a divorce in an amicable manner. We're experienced in negotiating, and most cases do get resolved without ever resorting to litigation.
When people try to do a divorce themselves, they really don't understand the laws, and they don't understand what would be their fair share. They end up with an improper division of property.
I always tell clients that we are going to work together on this, and I am going to discuss everything with you before I make a decision on your case so that you fully understand the impact of what I am doing. I try to give them comfort in knowing that there will be a light at the end of the tunnel.
