In this 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500, we take a full look at the exterior, interior, engine and take it for a fairly spirited POV drive. We did our best with the cooler temperatures this day all considering the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 has track tires, aka Michelin Cup 2 tires.
Overall, the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 is a MONSTER with the new "Predator" 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine making 760 horsepower and 630 pounds of torque! What world are we living in! In addition, the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 sounds soooo darn good! You can really hear that supercharger especially in track mode, and it comes through in the POV drive.
The only real negative is the fact that Ford does not currently offer the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 in a manual transmission. However, as you will say the Tremec 7 speed dual-clutch is surprisingly good, and no doubt leads to a faster 0 to 60 in 3.7 seconds and overall faster track times. But still, we would take a manual any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
The hard question is for us, is the GT350R with the six-speed manual and a higher-revving Voodoo engine just a better overall experience? I would say yes, and in some ways, the GT350R is as good looking if not better. I personally prefer the front-end styling of the GT350R. Having said that, the 2021 Mustang Shelby GT500 is an awesome car and no doubt about it is one badass muscle car for the ages. It's just the GT350R was so good too. If you can afford them both, go for it!
