A lot of times as an artist - as a creative being - I feel I deal best in images. My inner world is just as abstract as the outer world I create… and words aren’t as accurate in relaying my meaning. Especially when faced with tough emotional realizations I find I retreat inwards because the emotion may be too big to try and explain through words. That is when I turn to my art. For many of you who have been around for a while you know I have many intuitive art practices, such as collaging and scripting, that really help me to connect with a part of myself that is not easily accessible through the spoken language alone. I find I can initiate a symbolic release through art simply by allowing myself to be in a state of subconscious flow while remaining attuned to words and feelings that come up during these practices. I often jot them down or turn to my journal to flush out the thought or question that arose further. In this way art is therapy for me. I’ve found that the balance of the internal and external, the conscious and subconscious is so vital for me in better understanding myself and unearthing my deeper truths.
