In 2003, a pod of 9 female sperm whales came ashore at a remote beach near Bremer Bay, Western Australia. They were all pregnant and over a couple of days, exploded in the heat of the day. We visited the site with a team of scientists to attach satellite tags to the great white sharks that were feeding on the deceased whales. We anchored our 15 foot boat near the whale stranding and our presence instantly drew the attention of 3 great whites. One of them was a very agitated 16 foot long male. Unbeknown to us, it had recently been hooked by a fisherman in a boat very similar to ours and it was hell bent on revenge. If you look closely, you can see the remains of the fisherman's heavy gauge wire trace and rope hanging from its mouth. At the 1.10 mark you will see it power off the bottom and slam into the boat before repositioning and grabbing hold of the side. This footage was captured with an underwater camera I was (initially) handholding off the back of the boat.
