Greg Whitehouse contracted what he thought was a mild case of COVID-19, but two weeks after his diagnosis he felt “shooting pain” down his back and then fell, breaking his ankle. Doctors said he had Guillain-Barre syndrome, a paralyzing autoimmune disorder likely triggered by COVID. He slowly became paralyzed, only able to move his mouth and eyes. Seven months after intensive therapy, Greg completed the 5K race as an adaptive athlete.
