Israel's observer status within the African Union has been a source of division. The matter has once again taken centre stage after an Israeli diplomat was removed at the AU hall in Addis Ababa. The AU says the ambassador had been removed because she was not the duly accredited Israeli ambassador to Ethiopia. Meanwhile, South Africa has been appointed as chair of the African Union Peace and Security Council.
