Disney Dream Cruise! Miami, December 2022, Day 3 Castaway Cay and New Year's Eve! Join us for a spectacular day as we explore Castaway Cay, Disney's amazing private island. We couldn't think of a more perfect way to spend our last hours of 2022 than on the island! Back onboard the Dream for the evening we share all things New Year's Eve as we say goodbye to 2022 and welcome in 2023!
We had a lengthy must-do list for New Year's Eve and the first order of business was breakfast. Although Cabana's is a family favorite, we typically try to have one sit down breakfast each sailing. Royal Palace was open for breakfast and the menu offerings included omelets, Mickey waffles, pancakes, eggs Benedict and so much more. Brielle shared her toast roll up technique just for fun. Keagan always enjoys the peanut butter and jelly pancakes. We were able to have a relaxing low key meal with views of Castaway Cay from our table. Shortly after finishing, were able to disembark the ship to head onto the island.
Castaway Cay is our favorite of all the Caribbean destinations. The island has so much to offer including snorkeling, parasailing, sting ray encouters and even bicycle rides. There are beach loungers and hammocks available along both the family beach as well as the adult's only beach at Serenity Bay. We dropped Brielle off for a bit to play at Scuttle's Cove and headed to the family beach where we lounged and relaxed for a few hours. It was heavenly! Shopping on Castaway is a must as there are some exclusive items that can only be purchased while visiting. We played some games at In Da Shade and then made our way to Cookie's Too for lunch. There is a wde variety of BBQ options offered including hamburgers, hot dogs, ribs, chicken, corn on the cob, potato and macaroni salad as well as fresh fruit. No meal is ever complete without dessert and Cookie's Too has huge chocolate chip cookies, brownies, pineapple bread and of course ice cream! The banana is our favorite and we look forward to it on every trip to Castaway Cay!
While we were sad to leave the island the evening was chalk full of activities for New Year's Eve. We freshened up for dinner and had some time for some character photos before watching Beauty and the Beast at the Walt Disney Theater. We then made our way up on deck for the early New Year's Eve Party. This party was an early way to ring in the New Year for the youngest of cruisers (and for those not wanting to stay up until midnight). Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Chip and Dale, Donald and Daisy all made appearances on stage and there was plenty of dancing before the countdown. We absolutely loved the deck party!
We were back at Enchanted Garden for dinner where a special New Year's Eve menu was offered. We all ordered the Double Baked Gruyere Cheese Souffle and thought this was one of the best appetizers of the cruise. The Green and White Asparagus was also delicious. The menu was quite seafood heavy but we were able to ask our server to modify the Porcini-Crusted Filet Mignon. The steak was just ok. Brielle ordered the Roasted-Thyme Marinated Chicken which she enjoyed and Keagan stuck with his tried and true Macaroni and Cheese. Several of the dessert offerings sounded amazing. Brielle opted for a Mickey bar while Keagan selected the Ring in the New Year Sundae. Tim tried the Pralin Tart which he raved about. Cheree had the signature dessert, Spicy Molten Chocolate Cake, which was decadent and delicious. Service was prompt which we certainly appreciated!
The New Year's festivities began at 10:30 in anticipation of midnight so we made our way to deck 12 to find a good spot for the stage show and to see the starboard night sky for the upcoming fireworks show. Photographers were out and we were able to get some Magic Shots up on deck. Apple cider was passed by servers in some collectible cups as the time reached closer to midnight. The dance party on deck was fun and helped set the mood for the celebration. Before long the countdown was underway and then the night sky lit up with an amazing display of fireworks. We thought these fireworks were even better than pirate night! It was so fun seeing Mickey and all the characters out on stage ringing in the New Year. Happy 2023 everyone!
Back in our stateroom we discovered our towel animal (really a blanket animal) and some special New Year's chocolates. A commemorative print was also placed on our bed for the New Year's sailings. What an amazing souvenir! This was such as nice surprise. While this was our first ever New Year's cruise, it will not be our last. We can't wait to sail over the holiday again in the future!
We certainly hope you enjoyed the vlog as we enjoyed sharing our day with you! Onward to our next adventure and we send our best wishes for an incredible 2023 for you and yours!
