Performed by award-winning Theatre Director and Acting Coach, Andrew Keates.
Don’t go to the theatre.
And don’t read fiction - especially plays.
Don’t do classes and learn new ideas.
Don’t put a pen to paper or a pencil to a page.
Don’t spend time with other artists, and if you do, don’t share your struggles with them.
Don’t dance.
Don’t listen to new music - the news is quite enough to fill your head with.
Don’t pick up an instrument. You just don’t have time to practice.
Don’t sing. Don’t be brave.
Don’t play games.
And don’t forgive your younger self for your past mistakes. And certainly don’t change the vision of your future self either.
Don’t get help with that thing you know you’re struggling with.
Don’t keep a journal.
And don’t find time in your diary to be with someone who loves you every single day.
Don’t see the world from someone else’s perspective.
Don’t eat well, don’t exercise, don’t sleep without distraction to dream how tomorrow could be better than today.
Don’t go outdoors.
Everything you need is at home, alone; listening to this voice.
And don’t… Take any of this horrible advice. Especially if it’s coming from your fears.
I acknowledge there are plenty of obstacles that make some of those things very difficult to do.
But nourish yourself. And don’t let your fears be your obstacles.
Don’t.
