We confirmed this with an IBKR representative and margin interest only applies to your account when you hold a negative cash balance in any currency or if you hold short stock positions. The way we explained it in this video was not 100% correct. When you place a trade, the entire value of the trade is still debited from your account, the only difference with a margin account is it allows you to maintain a negative cash balance, you pay interest on the negative balance.
