For decades, the Holocaust has rightly occupied a central place in our understanding of history. Yet there is a less explored facet of World War II—the personal experiences of the soldiers who fought on the German side. The Cursed Generation, the book by today's guest, fills this gap, offering a nuanced perspective that challenges sweeping generalizations.

In German schools, military history or the everyday lives of people during the war are rarely discussed. As a result, few Germans today can imagine what it was like to be shot down in a fighter plane and drift alone in the Mediterranean. They do not know how their fathers and grandfathers endured the torturous heat of Africa or the unbearable cold and hunger in the cauldron of Stalingrad.

At WW2TV, we want to make it abundantly clear that the Wehrmacht, like all branches of the Third Reich, was guilty of numerous crimes against humanity during the war. Indeed we have a show about the myth of the clean Wehrmacht on the channel [ Ссылка ].
That said, we are interested in the stories of the last veterans of the Germany Army.

Christian Hardinghaus was born in Osnabrück in 1978. After studying history, media and literature, he completed a doctorate in propaganda research at the University of Osnabrück. This was followed by a degree in secondary school teaching and training as a specialised journalist at a journalism school in Berlin. Hardinghaus has been working as a freelance journalist, author and editor for 20 years.
