LYRICS (as I interpreted):
Am I the shade or a shadow?
Well, I can't really tell.
Well, I still can't remember if your eyes were brown, or green, or red.
And I shan't remember if your eyes were even playing a part,
In the moments that I was living,
In the moments that lived inside my heart.
I wish I paid attention to every word that you ever said,
But you always spoke in a whisper and I ain't so good at listening.
I can't remember if your eyes were blue, or green, or red,
Well you always spoke in a whisper and I ain't so good at listening.
(vocalization with lead guitar)
Harsh words from my mother,
Well, it turned out they were nice.
She said, "If you continue down this path, you're not the only one who dies".
A few months later, we were told that you were gone,
Well, the last I can remember was your eyes were brown, green, or blue[?].
(vocalization with lead guitar)
I wish I paid attention to every word that you had said,
But you always spoke in a whisper and I ain't in your head.
Well I can't remember if your eyes were green, or blue, or red,
But you always spoke in a whisper and I ain't so good at listening.
(vocalization with lead guitar)
A few days later, they found you frozen in your car,
Well, the last time you were seen leaving the YMCA from the showers.
Am I the shade or a shadow? Well I can't really tell,
And I still can not remember if your eyes were even there at all...
(vocalization with lead guitar)
Yeah, things were shaky, as I know they often are,
But after seven years together, I remember the back of the police car.
Yeah, things get crazy shaky sometimes when too fucked up,
And if I'd been in my right mind, I would have called the whole fuckin' thing off.
My heart pumps faster than could possibly be right[?],
And I [???] so many pumps in your whole life.
[breakdown]
Well I can't remember if your eyes were green, or brown, or red,
But you always spoke in a whisper and I'm not in your head.
I can't remember if your eyes were even there at all,
Well, you always spoke in a whisper and I-----

Wow, this song sounds like pain and you can see it in Isaac's face at the end... my heart aches rewatching this... but I love it.
With this song and the two I've heard in VIP, I'm STOKED for whatever new music Modest Mouse releases next... "Remember Yourself, Not Me" (as Isaac called it in the Maryland VIP) is another one that tugs on the heartstrings and made me tear up hearing it.
I'm really hoping we get the 2 new songs as singles after the tour is over (or all 3, though Isaac mentioned writing Surfin' Your Couch specifically for VIP after he played it in Philly, so I'm not sure if that would be released outside the little record we got).
