It takes about 30-45 minutes to walk the circumference of this breathtaking island. There are no structures. It is completely raw. The beautiful turquoise water around the island is crystal clear, and the beaches are soft white sand with billions of shells! There are whole, big shells with a huge variety of colors, shapes, and patterns. On the south end of the island there is a sandbar that stretches from the island to a rock, and during high tide the water from both sides wash over and meet in the middle, but never fully submerge it. This was my first time on a sandbar and it was just as beautiful and incredible as it looks. I seriously cant get over the sandbar. On the west side, there is a beach that stretches out and curves around, so the views are nearly 360 degrees. Since it’s also the side of the sunset, the way the light makes the water look as it breaks on the sand is truly magical. It was like something out of a postcard or screensaver. On the far end of that beach is a rock archway that leads to the rest of the beach. Iconic. On the north end of the island is a “secret” beach that can only be accessed at low tide because you have to climb over/between rocks. Flanked on both sides by big rocks with jungle on top, this beach is secluded from the rest of the island, which is just so awesome because I love secret beaches!!! In the middle of the island is jungle. There were no monkeys (too small). But there was a lone rooster on the island which made me feel kinda sad for it.
My Thai friends arranged the trip (they have a friend who has a longtail boat, and they brought hammocks and stuff). Having literally no gear, I brought my bikini, sunblock, mosquito repellent, and 3 kilos of fruit haha.
So we set up the hammocks and tents and built a fire on the beach. We explored the island, went snorkeling, lounged around, looked at shells, and cooked food. And then we realized something…. Something incredible and totally unheard of…… this island is devoid of mosquitos!!! IMAGINE THAT!! Imagine not having to worry about ANYTHING FLYING AROUND YOUR FACE BITING YOU AND MAKING YOU ITCHY!!!!!! I had to pinch myself!!!! The guy who brought us out here stayed in the area to fish for a few days, so every day he brought us a couple fish (most were tuna) and we cooked them over the fire. Delicious. We didn’t get much of a sunset while we were there, but the stars were INCREDIBLE!!!!! We just laid on the beach with bellies full of freshly caught fish and I pointed out constellations to them. Fuck there are so many stars!!! How could it get any better than this? Seriously, how?!?!
And then it did. We discovered the bioluminescent plankton sparkling along the beach like fairy lights!!!! I could have fainted. How does an island have ALL THIS and be empty for someone like me to go and camp on? I feel like this island is something that really super rich people would pay thousands of dollars to go to. It was my perfect- my dream- “vacation”; on the most beautiful island, with a sandbar, no people, no mosquitos, beautiful stars, and bioluminescence. AND IT WAS BASICALLY FREE!!!!! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT?!?!!!!!!!!!!!! I am still so excited! It was so much fun and a dream come true!
