LAWRENCEBURG, Ind. (Adam Clements) -- Commuters that typically take the Carroll Cropper Bridge on I-275 from Northern Kentucky to Indiana will have to deal with a major construction project that began Monday. The first phase of the project will cause some major delays on the Carroll Cropper Bridge. The project is expected to last until the fall.Traffic will be down to just one lane on each side while crews install a concrete bridge deck overlay for safety.A new lighting system will also be put into place.ODOT as well as the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet both suggest that the best bet is to simply avoid the bridge altogether. U.S. 50 to the Anderson Ferry is one suggestion. Another is to take I-75. It is a lengthy work around, but odds are it'll be quicker than sitting on the bridge.Beginning in late June or early July, the I-275 westbound bridge will be closed. Westbound traffic will be diverted to the eastbound side, restricting traffic to one lane in each direction. When work is completed on the westbound bridge, traffic will be shifted to the westbound lanes to allow for work on the eastbound bridge. The project is expected to be completed sometime in November. The lane closures will remain in effect until then.Follow Adam Clements on Twitter @aclementswkrc and LIKE him on Facebook.
