(22 Mar 2019) AMY POEHLER: 'PARKS AND RECREATION' REUNION FEELS LIKE FAMILY
There were lots of big bear hugs Thursday night (21 MARCH 2019) as the cast of "Parks and Recreation" gathered to celebrate 10 years since the show first aired.
Among those in attendance were Chris Pratt, Nick Offerman, Amy Poehler, Aziz Ansari, Retta and many more.
The series starred Poehler as Leslie Knope, a bubbly, mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks Department of Pawnee, a fictional town in Indiana.
"What's really cool about tonight is that I still love these people so deeply," she said. "I'm really just genuinely excited to see everybody that worked on the show and we all really, really love each other so it feels like a family reunion."
The popular political satire premiered on 9 April 2009 and ran for seven seasons until 2015.
"We are more popular now than when we were on the air. That is a fact," said Jim O'Heir who made regular appearances as Jerry Gergich.
"I think people found it through Netflix and Hulu," he explained. "We are on a couple different channels during the day and people found it. People told other people and this one told that one, because you know, we used to be on the bubble every year. Are we going to get picked up? You don't know, every May we sweated it out like literally every May. And now, it's crazy, it's crazy."
The cast still keeps in touch via group text at least once a week. It's getting everyone in the same place in person that can be tricky.
Nick Offerman, known on the show as Ron Swanson, was able to gather the bunch six months ago for a private dinner.
"Yeah, I mean everybody is all over the world all the time and we are all lucky enough to be busy. So usually once or twice a year, we say, somebody says 'OK three of us are going to be in LA in August. Anybody else?' And sometimes we actually manage to get everybody together and it's really lovely," he said.
Poehler said she's "excited" to finally release her directorial debut "Wine Country" on Netflix. The comedy was inspired by an "SNL" girls trip and stars Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Ana Gasteyer, Maya Rudolph, and Tina Fey.
"It is a kind of movie that you can drink with your friends at home and watch as well as go to the movie theater and see but it's a really good movie to drink wine too," said Poehler.
Sticking to the Netflix family, Poehler is set to direct another film for the streaming giant soon called "Moxie."
"Yes, that's going to be starting in the fall and myself and Morgan Sackett who is a producer on 'Parks and Rec' are working on it together. It's called 'Moxie' and it's based on a YA (young adult) novel of the same name by Jennifer Mathieu. It's about a young girl who starts a revolution in her high school," said Poehler.
