46 - Power in AC Circuits 3 | Power Triangle - Apparent, Real and Reactive Power
In todays video we shall discuss the different forms of power in an ac circuit.
We shall talk about Real Power, Reactive Power and Apparent Power, phase angle, power factor and all of that.
1. Real power or Actual power is the average power delivered to a to a load, thus depends on the load resistance and represented as P.
2. Reactive power is a measure of the energy changes between the source and the reactive part of the circuit and does depends on the reactance, X and denoted as Q.
3. Apparent power(S) is the combination of the two, thus P and Q.
4. The phase angle, phi, is the angle formed between the Apparent power (S) and the real power (P)
5. The power factor pf = cos phi.
We shall also talk about the power triangle, impedance triangle.
From the power triangle,
S2 = P2+Q2, and S = Vrms*Irms
P = S cos phi
Q = S sin phi
pf = cos phi
