"The problem is the disagreement in the team. It does not help us, with the media that does not stop talking about it. STORYLINE
Some French fans in Paris expressed concern on Monday for France's World Cup ambitions after public rifts erupted between players, coaches and national officials over Nicolas Anelka, thrown out of the squad for insulting team coach Raymond Domenech.
Anelka was kicked off the World Cup team for a profanity-laced tirade against Domenech, whose tactics and management skills have been called into question.
On Monday, French newspapers carried headlines reacting to the rift between the players.
Liberation's headline read "What a mess!" and L'Equipe newspaper carried a headline reading "France on their way home!"
One Paris resident said she was both "disappointed" and "disgusted, especially by the reaction of Anelka."
Alexandre Roy, another football fan in Paris said the team should deal with its problems after the match.
"I am putting all of my hope in this match that we must absolutely win," Alexandre Roy said.
The French team arrived at training as usual on Sunday and got off the bus to greet fans, but Domenech and France captain Patrice Evra stayed on the bus to talk.
When Domenech and Evra finally disembarked, fitness coach Robert Duverne was on the field putting down training cones.
Evra then got into an argument with Duverne before Domenech walked over to intervene.
Duverne stormed off, throwing his accreditation badge to the ground.
Evra then handed a letter to the press officer, and the players all boarded the team bus and drew the curtains.
About 200 fans started walking away shortly after.
France team director Jean-Louis Valentin said after the chaotic scenes that he had resigned from the French football federation, saying he was fed up.
In a statement, the federation distanced itself from what it called "the unacceptable behaviour of the players representing our country."
In their first two matches at the World Cup, France drew 0-0 with Uruguay and then lost 2-0 to Mexico.
