Electrolysis is a fantastic way to clean badly corroded coins and relics. When they're so badly corroded you can't even identify what they are, electrolysis will help remove the corrosion and reveal what's beneath!
What you'll need:
1 x 9/12VDC Power Supply (1000mA or 1Amp) or similar
2 x Alligator Clamps (Screw Terminal)
Side Cutters
Wire Strippers (or Craft Knife or similar)
1 x Clear Container
Non Iodised Sea Salt
Bi-Carbonate of Soda (Bicarb Soda) (Optional)
0000 Steel Wool (Ultra Fine Grade)
This video is intended to help you set up your own (basic) electrolysis bath. I'll demonstrate how to adapt a 9/12VDC power supply, and then use it an your own electrolysis bath to clean coins and relics!
Please be careful when working with "live" wires/clamps. It is ALWAYS recommended that the power supply be unplugged whenever you're touching the terminals to avoid potential shock.
9/12VDC is not considered high enough voltage to electrocute you, but if the adapter is/becomes faulty then the potential for harm is much higher!
