Albania's Prime Minister Bashkim Fino has appealed for an end to the shooting which began as a 15 minute gun-battle between police and demonstrators supporting a would-be king at a royalist rally on Thursday (03/07).
Leka Zogu, pretender to an Albanian throne, disputes initial indications that the people voted against a restoration of the monarchy in a referendum included with the general elections.

SOT Bashkim Fino, Albanian Prime Minister, (in Albanian): "I ask the chief of the Tirana police to call the King and make him aware of the government's attitude of avoiding confrontation and illegal meetings, because the Royal party is a legal party and they should behave in a legal manner. Today's incident has proven that we're powerful as a police force and that we're able to arrest those armed people who cause unrest";
SOT Gens Pollo, leader of Democratic Party, when asked whether Albania is heading toward another period of violence, "I hope not.";
