Chatusra Jati Rupaka Talam
This Tala is also known as Patti Talam.
Chatusra Jati is the Default Jati of the Rupaka Tala family. Just saying Rupaka Tala refers to the Chatusra Jati Rupaka Talam.
A Rupaka Talam consists of a Dhrutham followed by a Laghu. In Chatusra Jati, the Laghu has 4 Aksharas. Therefore, this Talam has a total of 6 Aksharas, split into 2 groups of 2 + 4.
The first group is called a Dhrutham - a clap of your palm followed by a wave of your hand (or turn)
The second group is called a Laghu - you clap the palm of your hand on your thigh, followed by counting with your fingers starting with your pinky and counting towards your thumb (and cycling back as necessary).
These are called Angas or parts of the Talam.
