The Marble Caves (Cavernas de Mármol), Marble Chapel (Capilla de Mármol), and Marble Cathedral (Catedral de Mármol) are an unusual geological formation carved into the Patagonian Andes.
They represent a group of caverns, columns and tunnels formed in monoliths of marble.
Formed by over 6,200 years of waves washing up against calcium carbonate, the smooth, swirling colours of the cavern walls are a reflection of the lake’s azure waters, which change in intensity and hue, depending on water levels and time of year.
Located far from any road, the caves are accessible only by boat.
Not to mention the 4-hour bumpy drive down the Carretera Austral to Puerto Tranquilo.
