Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, director of the Oscar-winning films “Saving Face” and “A Girl in the River,” talks to Salon’s Mary Elizabeth Williams about her latest documentary, “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge.” The film, available on Hulu, follows the designer’s life story as the child of an Auschwitz survivor and her rise as one of fashion’s most influential figures. Obaid-Chinoy also discusses her next project, a “Star Wars” feature starring Daisy Ridley, and responds to her critics. Obaid-Chinoy is the first woman and first person of color to helm a “Star Wars” movie.
