STORYLINE:
A car exploded on Saturday at a packed MacDonald's restaurant in southwest Moscow, injuring seven people, one critically.
The ITAR-Tass news agency, citing police sources, said the blast was a terrorist act.
The victims were inside the restaurant's first and second floors and on the street near the car at the time of the explosion.
The Interfax news agency said that among the injured was a five-year-old child.
Police said preliminary information suggested an explosive device packed with metal fragments was planted in the car.
ITAR-Tass said bomb disposal experts said the device contained five kilograms (11 pounds) of TNT.
Witnesses said that the explosion, which happened around 1 p.m. (0900 GMT) near the capital's South-West metro station, could be heard from some distance.
The explosion happened at a time when the restaurant was crowded with Saturday afternoon diners.
MacDonald's has about 20 restaurants in Moscow and they are popular places for young people and families, especially on Saturdays.
