1:37 Do Iron Supplement resolve Anemia – Myth 1
An iron supplement will resolve my anemia. FALSE, MAYBE TRUE. Here's the thing about anemia - it's not just about iron. Often that can be important but for some people it isn't always enough. Sometimes there is an imbalance in metabolism of iron or you may need B12. Other times, if your kidneys are stage 4/5 CKD then you may need to help from a hormone injection called epoetin alfa to actually make red blood cells.

Iron is the most important nutrient for anemia. FALSE. There are different types of anemia. For iron-deficiency anemia, yes, iron is a critical nutrient. However some people don't get enough folate or B12 which are also critical nutrients for red blood cell production.

I can't take iron because it hurts my stomach. FALSE, but maybe true. One of the most common complaints of iron supplements are that they cause constipation or hurt people's stomach. The problem is that most people are prescribed Ferrous Sulphate which is cheap but hard to take at any sort of significant dose. Ferrous Bisglycinate is better absorbed supplement that has less GI side-effects.

Iron supplements are constipating. TRUE for many. Iron supplements can be constipating for many people. Often it is because of the form of iron that they're taking. Again we like a iron glycinate type of supplement.

Iron is the most important nutrient for anemia, No, not necessarily unless you have iron deficiency anemia. Number three, I can’t take iron because it hurts my stomach. It’s true that whatever you were given hurts your stomach but necessarily true the iron itself is going to be hurting your stomach.
