Usman Ali Akbar, MBBS, University of Louisville, Louisville, KY, comments on the efficacy and toxicity profile of new tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as compared to older TKIs and chemotherapy in the treatment of Philadelphia-chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph+ ALL). Newer TKIs are more efficacious and are associated with fewer side effects than older TKIs and chemotherapy. Nevertheless, randomized clinical trials are required to incorporate these drugs in the treatment algorithm of Ph+ ALL.
