Looking for a way to increase retail sales in your salon without harassing your staff? As a salon owner, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s a better way to do salon retail effectively. It comes down to three strategies that’ll transform your sales.

First of all, you've got to change your mindset around selling versus serving. If you work with your staff and they feel icky about selling, it's probably because they feel they're pushing something on someone. You need to help them gain the mindset that it’s always about thinking, “How can I serve this client better?" It’s your job as the salon owner to help your staff understand how salon retail also adds value to your guests’ experience.

Second, you need to track your ask. After all, you miss 100% of the shots you don't take. Track how many times you actually ask your guests if they want to buy your salon retail products. This can be as simple as asking them what products they're using at home, which could open up a conversation.

The third way to increase retail sales is to narrate the experience while the guest is actually sitting in the chair. You want your staff to be talking about what they're using, why they're using it, and why it's one of the products that they like using on their hair. That's going to dramatically transform the conversation and increase the chances of a sale.
