Ancestris is another free genealogy tree builder program, but to the Ancestris team free means more than free of cost.

When a team of volunteers started Ancestris, they felt that genealogy software should not lock a user to a specific platform or program.

We have all faced this - a program we love is updated, and the feature we loved most is gone. Or the creator of the software loses interest. Or the licensing model has changed to something less desirable. Time to move on to another program.
But what can we do? Our whole family history is stored in that program.
