Shimla, March 20 (ANI): Hundreds of mid-day meal workers, mostly women, protested outside the assembly in Himachal Pradesh demanding increase in their wages. The protesters under the banner of the Mid-day Meal Workers Union demonstrated holding banners and shouted slogans in front of the state assembly in capital city Shimla. The protest was backed by the national Trade Union Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), which is affiliated to India's communist parties. President of the Mid-day Meal Workers Union, Kanta Mahant alleged that the government had slashed the budget allocation which resulted in sharp decline in their minimum wages. The protesters threatened to continue with their protests if their demands were not fulfilled. The state has over 27,000 mid-day workers engaged in 12,571 primary and middle schools.
