** There is a pattern to this chart because it's based on signs' polarities, elements, and qualities, all of which run in cycles.

** I forgot to mention something: a sign's column and row are identical save two differences. So an X-Y match may not necessarily be the same as a Y-X match. This is because the top row of signs is for the partner with more yin energy, and the left column for the partner with more yang energy.

To get a fuller picture of your compatibility with someone based on signs, I recommend taking a look at your natal charts, including sun, moon, and rising signs, as well as Mars and Venus. For example -- I'm a Capricorn sun who has been very happy with a Sagittarius, even though this chart says that match should be average at best.
