(31 May 2021) French President Emmanuel Macron said he wanted Denmark to explain allegations that its foreign secret service reportedly helped the United States spy on European leaders.
Macron was speaking during a press conference at the virtual Franco-German Council on Monday.
"I just want to say that it is not acceptable between allies. It is even less acceptable between allies and European partners. I am attached to the bond of trust that unites Europeans and Americans. We have a lot to do for our common security. There is no space for suspicion amongst us," Macron said.
Several European nations want Denmark to explain why its foreign secret service allegedly helped the United States spy on European leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel, more than seven years ago.
