STORYLINE:
The 2024 Olympic Games will kick off in Paris in just over a year, on 26 July 2024.
The organizers aim to use the French capital's charms to wow the global audiences.
Many of the city's picture-postcard landmarks will provide the backdrop to the sporting events.
And the River Seine will be the star of the opening ceremony extravaganza along a six-kilometer stretch of the waterway.
Beach volleyball games will be played by the Eiffel Tower and the marathon route passes through Versailles.
The extravaganza will be staged on a six-kilometer (3 1/2-mile) stretch of the cleaned-up waterway.
The first post-pandemic Olympics will also mark the return of full-size crowds.
Nearly 70% of the 10 million tickets flew off shelves in the two first rounds of sales.
The overall Olympic budget, including the cost of building and renovating venues, is about 8 billion euros ($8.2 billion).
