Kecal, the matchmaker, has contracted Marenka to another. He loses his fee if Jenik cannot be dissuaded from marrying her. Boehme's singing is not quite on the same level as Gottlob Frick's audio version, but his acting is really top class (IMHO).
This translation is a liberal one in order to be singable in English.
