Many leaders and managers strive to find that perfect approach to their leadership or management style, and so we should - it is a privileged position to be in. There are many different leadership theories and models out there, so many that it can get very complex and confusing. I want to talk to you about Situational Leadership (Hersey and Blanchard's model) and how it can be put into practice. Having strong leadership skills, and especially if you are in a management role, is essential when working within teams like in the NHS.

The theory behind this leadership model is designed in a way to offer flexibility and responsiveness to given circumstances and situations that you find yourself in as a leader. However, there are some cons to this style like many other models of leadership, and I go through some of the pros and cons in this review of the situational leadership model. The key to successfully being able to deploy such a style as a leader is communication! You have to communicate with your teams of what they can expect of you as their lead or boss and remain transparent and open with how this will develop.
