John Edgar serves as the USAID/Philippines Environment Office Chief where he oversees biodiversity, climate resilience, energy and water programs. He has 17 years of experience designing, implementing and managing development activities with a focus on agriculture and natural resource management. In 2008, he joined USAID as a Foreign Service Officer. From 2009-2018, he served in Malawi and Ethiopia managing agriculture, humanitarian assistance and environment programs. His most recent assignment was Deputy Office Chief of USAID/Ethiopia’s Economic Growth Office. Prior to USAID, Mr. Edgar worked for Mercy Corps and the United Methodist Committee for Relief in Mongolia and Indonesia. He started his development career as a small business development advisor with the Peace Corps in rural Mongolia.
Mr. Edgar holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies with a focus on East Asian Studies from the College of William and Mary, and a Master’s Degree in International Agriculture and Rural Development from Cornell University.
