Why HDR? - 4K HDR videos are given a higher bitrate than native 4K videos, thus increasing the quality of extremely noisy levels such as this one. They also look better color wise, in my opinion.
How do I know if HDR is enabled? - On both the website and app, in the menu that you go to change the quality settings, it should say "HDR" next to the resolutions. If you see this, it means HDR is working as intended.
Why I can't see the HDR? - There are 2 reasons as to why you wouldn't be able to see the HDR video. One is because the video is not completely rendered yet (HDR video takes about a day to fully render, separately from the 4K video). The second reason is because you have HDR and browser acceleration disabled. In order for Youtube to switch a video to HDR, you must enable HDR in your windows settings (if your monitor supports it). If HDR is still not working, check to see if Hardware Acceleration is enabled in your browser settings. Chromium based browsers also work better when processing HDR video, so if you are using Firefox and it still doesn't work, try using a different browser.
What about mobile? - The Youtube app should automatically have HDR enabled if your phone supports it. If it isn't showing, it means your device doesn't support HDR or the video hasn't rendered the HDR yet.
