When people think of American bombers, they think of B-17 and B-25 and B-29, but in fact, B-24 was the most produced American bomber.
More than 18,000 units were produced, flying all the skies during World War II, from Western Europe, the Mediterranean Sea, the Pacific Ocean, the South China Sea, and the Soviet sky.
At its inception, the B-24 was a modern design featuring a highly efficient shoulder-mounted, high aspect ratio Davis wing.
The wing gave B-24 a high cruise speed, long range and the ability to carry a heavy bomb load.
However, the B-24 had a lower ceiling and was less robust than other bombers such as the B-17.
The B-24 also served as an anti-submarine patrol aircraft, in which the British sank 72 U-boats with the B-24 they received from the United States.
Although it is not an aircraft that has been recorded greatly in history, it must be an outstanding bomber that played an indispensable role in the history of World War II.
