We were so excited to travel back to the amazing Azores to film with our friend João Rocha again! 🙌🏼

The Barbershop by João Rocha has moved into a larger space down the street from the old location in Ponta Delgada. The new space includes four barber stations, a pool table, and comfortable sitting area. There's also an impressive training area for João’s academy, as well as separate spaces for a tattoo artist and João's wife’s shop - she is a nail artist.
We planned to film a shave and wanted to include a little twist in the video to show some of the incredible scenery in The Azores ✨ The twist at the end of the video was filmed atop an abandoned hotel using the natural landscape as a backdrop.
When we visited the Azores in 2018, we saw the abandoned 5-star Monte Palace hotel overlooking Lagoa Verde (The Green Lagoon) and Lagoa Azul (the Blue Lagoon).
The hotel was originally built in the late 1980s as an exclusive retreat to draw tourists into the Azores. Let’s just say the plan was a little too far ahead of global travel and tourism trends to be successful.
The hotel managed to stay operational for about a year before it closed. For more than a decade the property was patrolled by security, but eventually that came to an end.
It was rumored to be a perfect 80s time warp when the locals gained access in the mid-2000s, but this did not last long as the property was raided for anything inside. Even the old tube TVs and bed mattresses were taken 📺🛏
The hotel is an empty shell now with rumors of being renovated which hasn’t happened yet. Derelict or not, the location of this hotel gives magnificent views down towards the lagoons.
