A sweet bit of home cine footage of a caravan holiday taken at St Osyth near Clacton in 1965. This includes shots of caravans, and a family enjoying the boats on the sea. Cine film of this period can often show Mediterranean holidays because many aspirational families of the time were keen to present themselves as part of the “jet set”....albeit that the jets seldom flew affordably beyond Spain. However, in reality, the bulk of British working class people were perfectly happy with an holiday in the UK at this time. Resorts like Clacton, Gt Yarmouth, Skegness, Brighton, Blackpool, and so on, were aimed for, and enjoyed by many. Indeed, many could aspire to no more than a holiday within the UK. And with weather willing, that could be the best in the world. Here is an example of how this was so.
