A sermon delivered by C.H. Spurgeon, Lord's day morning, 12th June 1864.
Spurgeon was never afraid to handle unusual subjects. Here he supposes that there could be a choice between the continued presence of the Lord Jesus upon earth, or the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The preacher seeks to show the infinite wisdom of God in choosing the latter course. We long to see our Lord, and to walk with Him; but while here below God communicates the presence and blessings of Christ through the Holy Spirit.
