Through Nonprofit Data 101, DataKind provides webinars on various data science topics, followed by the option to participate in free 30-minute one-on-one consultations with DataKind volunteer experts.
To get started with using data science, you often need to set up your data governance system to ensure data is properly managed and secure. In this webinar, we walk you through the basics of data governance and security, sharing real social impact project examples. We explain what data governance is, how it can be used in the social sector, and discuss opportunities, constraints, and challenges that social impact organizations should consider.

Sridhar Ganapathy: Currently working with national and sub-national governments on institutional design, formulation and effectiveness of data governance initiatives. Experience in teaching, instructional design and EdTech in the social sector, and systems design, data engineering and analytics for financial institutions.
Brian Gillikin: Data scientist and cloud architect with broad experience in data governance, security and privacy, data platforms, and data engineering. Currently with IBM working with U.S. Federal clients. Experience in civic tech, nonprofits, and technical training and delivery in Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean. Contributor to Egeria, a Linux Foundation data governance and metadata standards project.
