It only took me 42 years to get the damn thing :-) Most Sci-Fi aficionadoes agree...the gun from Logan's Run is by far one of the coolest and actually working guns in the history of the genre. Made in 1976 Logan's Run was THE most expensive Science Fiction film of it's day. Based on the short story by William F Nolan, MGM took a huge gamble and sunk a TON of money into the production. It paid off but sadly the film preceded Star Wars by only one year and now its only a footnote in Sci-Fi history, being called "The last big budget Sci-Fi film made before Star Wars" which totally eclipsed it. It's budget was actually 3 million more than Star Wars and it shows. One of the more elaborate props were the guns, Granted the guns in Star Wars actually worked as well but they were pre-existing WWII Era German & British Weapons with blank fire adapters and blank Ammo...the guns from Logan's Run were Scratch Built and created their flame blasting effect by spraying Calcium Carbide (The same fuel in coal miners helmet lamps) across a glow plug to create the flame. (You can actually see a replica of the Glow Plug at the bottom front of the muzzle on mine). as cool looking as it was when they worked Micheal York states on the DVD commentary that the guns were actually "Complete junk" and one even went off in Richard Jordan's holster during filming (Ow) . This replica, sold by devlinandassociatesllc. on Ebay actually uses a LED to produce the effect as it's way more efficient (And safer) to do that way. You can get actual firing replicas but they sell for upwards of a grand, and are harder to maintain than a actual gun. For some reason I always preferred Logan's Run as a genre, I read all the novels & comics & watched the short lived TV series with Gregory Harrison. There's been talk of a remake for decades and Nolan says WB cuts him a check every year to maintain the right to the story...but nothing so far.
