Most vintage vinyl records measure somewhere between 120-150g
These days, however, and with the vinyl revival, many modern records are pressed on to thicker 180g vinyl.
They're often labeled as "audiophile" but does the weight of a record actually affect the sound? Does 180g vinyl sound better?
We address the pros and cons of 180g vinyl, including the increased resistance to potential warping, the benefit of added mass, and the claim this can decrease wow and flutter. The real benefit, we think, is simply that 180g vinyl just feels more "premium".
