Florence Price lived from 1887 to 1953.
When her Symphony in E minor was performed in 1933 by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Frederick Stock it became the first work by a black female composer performed by a major U.S. orchestra.
Price wrote orchestral and choral works, chamber music, works for Voice and Piano, Violin and Piano, Piano Solo and Organ. She also worked as an organist for silent movies and wrote music for radio commercials. "Adoration" was published in The Organ Portfolio December 1951.
