Researchers in developing countries with high HIV infections are developing promising strategies to advance towards global HIV treatment targets. This was revealed at the 21st International AIDS Conference in Durban last week. Thousands of Civil Rights Activists including the Treatment Action Campaign marched through the city during the opening of the gathering on Monday. This was aimed at highlighting the need to get antiretroviral treatment to people with HIV.
There has been a marked improvement on South Africa's fight against the pandemic though, with the country ranked amongst those providing insights on how to achieve the 90-90-90 objectives. The interrogation of the age-factor on sexual relationships between older men and younger women, as well as the prevalence of the Prevotella Bivia bacterium were some of the most topical issues discussed at the Conference.
